Engineered for offshore demands

The customer wanted to be able to lift heavy equipment into the nacelle. It was essential to have the possibility to open one side of the basket to allow a fully pallet to be placed directly into the basket using a forklift. When the door is closed, it is locked in place with locking posts stakes at the bottom and a safety bar at the top. The Lifting Basket is then lifted into the nacelle by four lifting points, one in each corner.

Key features

The S020-033 Lifting Basket has a number of practical and safety features that make it easy and safe to work with:

  • Lockable doors secured with a steel cross bolt.
  • Non-slip base.
  • Top beam with locking system that can be stored vertically in corner posts.
  • Crane and forklift compatible, with lifting lugs and fork pockets.
  • Modular and stackable up to 4 empty or 2 full units

All baskets are load tested to 1.5 x WLL = 3750 kg and CE marked. The basket must be visually inspected before each lift to ensure safety. The basket must not be used for lifting personnel.

Seasight Solutions: Ready to support the Danish Armed Forces on several fronts

At today’s visit by Minister of Defense Troels Lund Poulsen in Ringkøbing, Seasight Group – with the affiliates Hvide Sande Shipyard and Seasight Solutions – had 40 minutes to present their total capacity and opportunities to contribute to the defense’s future tasks.

The visit cemented that both Hvide Sande Shipyard and its partners OSK Group and Karstensens Skibsværft are ready to quickly deliver the next generation of environmental ships to the Navy if a quick agreement can be secured.

But the dialog with the Minister went beyond the ships: Seasight Solutions’ deliveries to the Air Force, including platforms and access solutions for the new F-35 fighter jets, support equipment for sanitary units and solutions for other urgent matters were also on the agenda.

Years of cooperation with the Danish Armed Forces

For more than three decades, Seasight Group has been a regular partner to the Danish Armed Forces. This experience provides a solid foundation for playing a key role in the upcoming investments in Danish defense capacity.

“Our long-term collaboration means that the Danish Armed Forces know we deliver reliability, quality and customized solutions – both from Hvide Sande Shipyard and Seasight Solutions,” says Carl Erik Kristensen, CEO of Seasight Group.

This history and understanding of the Defense’s needs was clearly highlighted during the meeting as a strength in relation to the upcoming projects at sea, land and air.

Ready to take on greater responsibility

Seasight Solutions is already experiencing a significant increase in demand as the Danish Defense accelerates its procurement. CEO Thomas Halkjær Kristensen sees it as the company’s responsibility to be there when Denmark needs it.

For many years, Seasight Solutions has been the main supplier of specialized platforms for virtually everything that can fly in the Danish Armed Forces, and today the company covers a wide range – from support equipment for aircraft and helicopters to stairs and access roads for containers and more.

“If there is an airplane or helicopter that needs servicing or painting, we have almost always delivered the work platforms used for those tasks,” says Thomas Halkjær Kristensen.

Speed without compromise

The need for fast, reliable deliveries was a key theme during today’s visit, and Seasight Group is clearly positioning itself to meet this demand.

“Even with a full order book across the group, we are ready to deliver quickly and efficiently – whether it’s new environmental protection vessels, platforms for the F-35, or critical equipment for sanitary units,” says Carl Erik Kristensen.

In addition, Seasight Solutions and Hvide Sande Shipyard are also ready to bid as suppliers for future procurements of arctic patrol ships and home guard vessels.

“Danish suppliers can deliver both quality and speed – and we are ready to play an even bigger role when the Danish Armed Forces step up the pace,” concludes Thomas Halkjær Kristensen.

BiRSA – Platform for offshore radar system

Seasight Solutions’ technical department has developed a platform for offshore radar system to be deployed in the Ecowende wind farm Hollandse Kust 53 kilometers off the Dutch coast. The Bird Rader Swing Arm (BiRSA) is a robust and flexible platforme to install the radar system.

Advanced monitoring framework for offshore wind farms to protect wildlife

In a joint venture with Shell, Chubu, and Eneco, Ecowende wished to implement the most advanced framework for monitoring birds and bats at offshore wind farms.

The complex project, involving the deployment of Robin Radar’s MAX® bird and bat radar systems, DHI’s sensor integration and AI species recognition solution MUSE, and MIDO’s power-generating floating platform FLORA, needed a stable and reliable platform for the radar systems, contributing to the project’s goal of minimal impact on the natural habitat of birds, bats, and marine mammals.

A robust and flexible solution for supporting bird radar systems

Developed and manufactured by Seasight Solutions, the BiRSA – Bird Radar Swing Arm – is a custom-made structure engineered to withstand harsh environmental conditions, ensuring optimal performance and longevity in offshore environments.

The Bird Radar Swing Arm is exclusively designed to support radar systems, providing a stable and secure platform for radar operations.

It is mounted on the monopile top platform and can rotate over the pivot column, allowing for flexible positioning between 0° and 182° clockwise and 125° anticlockwise. This rotation is achieved through a slewing drive handle, which is self-locking when not in use, ensuring the radar remains in the desired position.

Key specifications of the Bird Radar Swing Arm include a weight of 633 kg, a height of 2000 mm, and a length of 2970 mm.

It operates efficiently within an ambient temperature range of -10°C to +45°C and can withstand maximum wind speeds of 17 m/s when the radar is activated (and 51.5 m/s when deactivated)

In summary, the BiRSA – Bird Radar Swing Arm is a versatile, robust, and reliable solution for supporting radar systems.

Steven Zijp, Engineering Manager at Ecowende: “Ecowende is grateful for its partnership with SeaSight. Through active collaboration, both parties have successfully transformed the concept of the Bird Radar Swing Arm into a mature design—and now into a tangible structure ready for offshore deployment. We are very excited to install our bird radar system on top of SeaSight’s Swing Arm. This radar will support Ecowende in getting a clear picture of the offshore species in the wind farm zone, by monitoring the size, speed, height, location and flight path for each bird or bat it detects – a crucial step in achieving our ecological ambitions.”

The Ecowende project

Ecowende, a joint venture of Shell, Chubu, and Eneco, is implementing the most advanced framework for monitoring birds and bats at offshore wind farms.

The many advanced technologies deployed in the project will be used to monitor and assess the impact of the wind farm on ecology, setting a new ecological standard for offshore wind farms.

The Bird Radar Swing Arm (BiRSA) plays an important role in this initiative by providing a stable and reliable platform for the radar systems, contributing to the project’s goal of minimal impact on the natural habitat of birds, bats, and marine mammals.

At Seasight Solutions we’re proud to be able to contribute with our skilled engineers and experienced project managers to projects that promotes both renewable energy and wildlife.
